Yesterday afternoon, amidst a large rain storm, one of my closest friends and I drove around and prayed around some of the brothels in our city. It was overwhelming, sad, sickening ... but empowering.
Some faces of the abused, the down-trodden, the forgotten women of the world ... and we try to imagine justice for them, the ones who don't want to remain in that place ... the ones who hope for freedom from the bondage of the all-encompassing business.
As we drove around, the storm was really emotionally symbolic for me ... the floods on the sides of the road, the wipers not moving quickly enough to see clearly through the windshield, the rain overpowered everything.
When we were done, we were driving home and saw a HUGE rainbow overarching the entire east side of the city. It was breathtaking, and a relief from the imagery that I had during the hour prior as we poured prayer over the city.
We're going to try to figure out what our part is to be in this all, soon.
